This has been quite a week, we've seen and felt those tender mercies we often hear about. For us, it started Sunday night to Monday morning: Maddie was up every hour or two, she just wouldn't sleep, so I didn't sleep. Eric felt for me Monday morning, and volunteered to take a family day (since he only took 2 when Maddie was born because Mom was here for a week), I felt like a whimp having him stay home, but I did it anyway. With Eric home, I was able to take Maddie to her two week check-up without the other kids (very nice), while he took Aidan to school, and cleaned the carpet in the living and dining rooms (very, very nice). Maddie's appointment was not routine. Yes, she has gained weight (1.5 lbs), and has grown (1-1 1/2 inches), but our doctor also heard a murmur with her heart: a possible VSD (that's a hole between her lower chambers). We were refered to the pediatric cardiologists, they wanted this checked out asap. I was so grateful to have Eric to come home to, not an empty house with my three youngest.
We got Maddie an appointment for Thursday (yesterday) at their offices in Phoenix, they did an ultrasound and an echocardiogram. Eric's mom took Davin and Eme, and volunteered to pick Aidan up from school if the appointment went long (it did- 1 1/2 hours). Eric's dad came over Monday night to give Maddie a blessing (and help with another one of our projects), the blessing was just as much for her, as it was for me-I felt more at peace after hearing it.
Our week went by quickly, and easily. Yesterday was a very long day, but it went well. Maddie does indeed have a VSD, but it is small (1-2 mm) and the flow is left to right (oxygenated blood leaking back into the non-oxygenated blood), so her heart will have to work just a little bit harder, but not by much. She also has a very small ASD (upper chamber)
So, to sum up, she is okay, I am okay. It has been a very long and stressful week for us, but it is over now. I had thought about calling earlier to let you all know, but it was just too much for me to handle during the moment. We love you all.
