Our vacation officially started on Friday, July 18th after Eric got home later, again. He'd been home late every night that week getting things settled at work. We packed the car that night and then woke up early, 4 am, the next morning, and were on the road by 5. We caravaned up with Eric's parents, I'm sure they started to regret this decision when we stopped after just 2 hours to feed a hungry baby and deal with small bladders. I also feel bad for Maddie, she's used to eating every two hours, just for 10 minutes mind you, so it was quite the ordeal for her when we pushed her to 3, or even 4, hours. We made the usual stop at the Glen Canyon Dam at Lake Powell, made all of the usual Dam jokes, and made use of the very nice public restrooms there.

We continued on from there, but the trip was a very, very long one, again close to 15 hours. We made it into Huntsville safe and sound, and very relieved to be there. Sunday was spent relaxing, walking to Sacrament meeting (it's only on the other side of the park from the house), and enjoying the mid-80 degree weather.
On Monday Eme , Maddie, and I drove the 1 1/2 hours down to Provo to see Julie and her little folk and Mom (she was out helping Julie.) It was a fun, do nothing really kind of day. Just a trip to JoAnn's and to the BYU bookstore. Maybe next year we'll take our little folk on a tour of BYU, but then again so much has changed, we'll see. I came back up to find the boys already showered, thank you Nana and Daddy.
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday were all the same do nothing in particular kind of days. We did spend a lot of time outside playing, either in the backyard, at the park , or just on the porch. Eric and I had fun chasing the kids around, and encouraging their outdoor play (they are used to being either inside or in a pool right now, it is just too hot to be outside to just play.) One of our favorites was to play tag with the boys while the girls took naps, we made "base" the sprinkler. Aidan wasn't too pleased with getting wet, but Davin loved it. The kids enjoyed their version of croquet, a big red bouncy ball and toy garden tools (the garden tools did double duty as swords, when needed.) We finished Friday off with 'smores in the fire pits.
Saturday began early for me, Grandma Roberts promised me a long overdue tour of the farm. We've been married for 10 years now, and I hadn't ever been up on the farm before. (Please note: here the term "farm" refers to a whole mountain, it includes all of the cultivated fields and free roam areas for the cows.) I can only describe the drive up there as terrifyingly thrilling, I held onto the back of Grandma's 4-wheeler while she drove (safely, we stuck to the back roads and trails) the 20 minutes or so to the property line. I even got to drive the bike through 3 of the gates. I took lots of pictures, having fun with some of my camera's features, here are a few of them.
The rest of Saturday was spent getting ready for Grandpa J's 90th birthday party, his birthday isn't until October, but this is when everyone, and I do mean everyone, could make it. We had Grandpa J there, and his 4 children (Eric's dad, Lynn, LuAnn, and Dale) and their spouses (4 more). All of their children were there (Eric's cousins and siblings, 12), plus their wives (9) and their children (second cousins, once removed, 14). It was huge (43 descendants, 4 generations), and Grandpa loved every moment of it.
Our last Sunday was much like our first, a little more crowded with all of Eric's sibling there, but still nice. We celebrated Owen's first birthday, and I thought of Dan on his (I hope it was a good one.) And we got ready to leave in the morning. However, when Monday morning arrived, Eme was sick, and so we delayed our departure by a day. Our trip home was outlined briefly below. It was a wonderful and relaxing time, just what we needed.
