In Memorium

It has been just over two weeks, and I think that I am finally in a place where I can share our recent loss. Two weeks ago, our microwave gave up the ghost. But with all things that have lived a long, full and meaningful life, it wasn't a time to be sad at our loss, but to look with a bright hope to our future-and Costco for a new microwave. We knew that our microwave's time was running out, it was taking it 2 minutes where it used to only take 35 second to reheat spaghetti, but still we had hope. But, then, the day before Thanksgiving, our microwave just couldn't do it anymore. I knew that it was time when it took more than 5 minutes to thaw the 1/2 cup of frozen baby food. So, off to Costco I went, the day before Thanksgiving, 30 minutes after opening (and I will NEVER do that again). The worst part was the joke made about cooking a turkey in a microwave, really?

For those of you who are unfamiliar with our old giant, here is a little bit about it. The microwave was more than 20 years old, it was the one I remember from jr high on. My parents gave it to us when we moved to New York. It was amazing, it was HUGE, it could fit a 9x13-inch glass baking pan in it very easily, I probably could have fit a turkey in it too (altough who would want to?), and it took up half of the counter. They just don't make them like that anymore. I'm a little sad, I know that I won't get 20 years out of my new microwave, I'll be lucky to get more than 5. But life must go on. And for us it goes on with a super powerful, stainless steel Panasonic 1.5 cft work of beauty.

I know how you feel, I feel the same way about my alarm clock. Its those gadgets that just grow up with you and its hard to seem them go. I'm a loser though, I took a picture of it, and i think I blogged about it too.

Lynn,
You are so funny! It is so true about appliances now - they definitely don't make them to last like they used to!!

Mourn as you surely must, but you don't have a lot of time, I imagine your baby food will be ready in just a few seconds...
I love you!
