January makes me crazy, it's true

Ah January, it's that wonderful time of year when, just after their Christmas break, the kids take turns getting sick (and getting me sick this week to boot).  I feel like someone's taken a 2x4 to my back, and my head is full of slugs (I know, I"m as bad as the kids when it comes to being a whiney sick person).

January also means me getting that boredom itch.  Where I wander around begining a million projects, or just dreaming them up, because I can't figure out what I want to do.  It happens every year, and usually lasts a few weeks.  I think it has to do with the fact that since I have sick kids, we can't really get out of the house as much as I'd like to (ie the zoo, the park), and then I get cabin fever.

So this time around my project list/idea list has included the following: refinishing some bunk beds for the girls (I love craigslist), planning out 2 quilts for the girls' bunk beds, buying the fabric for said quilts, reorganizing my desk/the kids toys/the linen cabinet, re-typing all of my recipes, prepping some friends for their Technician radio license, wanting to redecorate something (all at various stages of thought or completion).

Thankfully, the craziness isn't sustainable, just until I break down in tears and Eric helps me refocus on the important stuff.  I then spend a day reworking my priorities and set up a simple schedule w/ one major chore to be done each day.  I pick one project at a time (right now: the bunk beds on the weekend and my General Class license during the week).  I sit down with my cookbooks again to plan out meals, and just begin to enjoy my time again.

Because really, this is the best time of year to live in Arizona.  Our weather is mild and lovely every day.  The kids play in the backyard together for an hour or so at a time, we meet up with friends at the park, and we hit the zoo bi-weekly.

Ha Ha! I'm only laughing because it is so great to know that I am not the only January project-manic! For your recipe typing, may I suggest doing what I did a couple of Januaries ago? I looked at all the cookbooks I had had for a while, as well as all the recipes I had on sheets of paper in my "file", and picked out the ones that I had actually prepared (not the ones that had been in the "someday maybe" pile for 10 years), tore my cookbooks apart, and put every good recipe in a sheet protector in a big 3-ring binder. And threw everything else away. Now when I want to add a new recipe, I just print it on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper and add it to the binder. Changed my world.

Good luck with everything!
