I spent a good solid hour, and three old burp rags, scrubbing it down with Murphy's Oil Soap, followed by a good coat of lemon oil. It looks so much better than when we picked it up. Eric's even thinking of refinishing it, not for a year or two though. It had been tuned prior to our buying it, and moving it in the minivan helped keep the tune too.
Eric's spent some time on it remembering piano lessons from way before his mission, he's gotten 3 hymns he can play decently-by now I really shouldn't be surprised by his hidden talents, it's not like he's touched a piano in the 12 years I've known him. And the girls are having fun hearing themselves "play." We'll worry about piano lessons later, when school gets out. But I'm so grateful that we were able to do this, it will be well used.

I love the picture of the two girls from the back. It makes me think of the Renoir painting, "Two Girls at the Piano," c. 1892 (I know, not super creatively titled).
Enjoy the blessing of music, though more likely just a "joyful noise" before the piano lesson really start, in the house!
What a wonderful addition to your family! I want one, even though I can't play, but I'm going to learn someday.
PS. Will you send my email to Rachel so I can get onto her blog. My email is silverbrit@gmail.com
Yeah for you! It won't surprise you to know that we bought a piano before we bought any other furniture.... including couches! My oldest girl started lessons this year, it has been great for her. Good investment!
How fun! Sounds like you got a good deal. Your kids are getting so big. Cute picture of them.
