Look out, she's 2!

Maddie had a big day today. It isn't everyday that you can double your age overnight, infact it's a once in a lifetime occurance. So we made sure we celebrated appropriately enough for our big 2 year old girl.

We started off with apple-cinnamon pancakes and a gift from her siblings: a fluffy stuffed bunny. Ah, love at first snuggle.
After the first session of conference, but before naptime, we gave Maddie her gifts from us. Over the years we've learned some things, namely a 1 or 2 year old doesn't care about how many gifts they get. So, she got her own dress-up doll and another outfit for her doll. She was in love! Maddie and Eme went upstairs to play dolls together, and we only had to break up a fight over the new doll once! (Eme was trying to help Maddie change the doll's clothes.) Dolly/Baby (she's not very original with names yet) went down for a nap with her soon after, and slept until it was time to go to Nana's and Papa's for Easter dinner (and birthday cake!)
we didn't plan on it, but they match rather nicely

Ah, the cake. I tend to go crazy over their cakes. (the most used Christmas gift EVER mom!) And this year was no exception. For the record, about halfway through any cake, I begin to wonder what I was thinking, and swear that I will never do this ever again. (Claudia, about 1 hour into assembling/decorating the cake, I thought upon your frosting shots with serious envy.) I'm glad I never listen to myself, and I'm so grateful for a husband that can keep me calm while I'm working. (btw, it took 2 1/2 hours to assemble/decorate this one, I had baked the cakes the day before and froze them for ease of handling.)

where's your cake Maddie?

So this year, I went for a topsy-turvy cake. It was my first attempt, and as such, it turned out really well. Overall, I would change only one thing for next time: I need to make sure that the upper layer is centered on the bottom. I didn't, and although it looks good, it would look much better if I had. But really, it's for a 2 year old, it's not like she cared.

mmm, cake

Maddie got some more gifts from her Nana and Papa: her own stroller (now maybe they'll stop fighting over Eme's), a baby play pen and bathtub (although, now they can fight over these); a new book; clothes, clothes, and clothes (three super cute outfits, including the one seen in these pictures.)

one of her new outfits, way too cute!

Happy Birthday Baby Girl!! You may now be 2, but you'll always be our baby. Love you girl!

Happy Birthday! Great job on a sweet girl and a fabulous looking cake. Wish I had the talent to do something like that, but my kids are used to mediocraty, so they enjoy frosting shots.

Happy birthday cutie! You're totally right about turning two - doubling your age overnight is worth celebrating big time!
