Goodness, this past month has flown by (July creeped by so s-l-o-w-l-y). I've been swamped with PTSO stuff-some things have been better than others-this is my first year on the board, and it's been more than a little overwhelming. However, I've been reassured that it will settle down, maybe. I've had meetings (that lasted an eternity), teacher breakfasts to organize, 16 birthdays to make cards for, the directory to get up and going (online this year thankfully), plus the back to school night, and all of the other smaller projects (and those were the ones I worked on, there were plenty of other things the other gals did).
I've also had physical therapy 3 times a week, at 6:30 am, the entire month for my knee. Those earlier ones were significantly harder than the latter ones, not that the other ones were easy by any means. But I've gotten to the point that I am able to now walk for exercise, I don't wear my brace at home anymore, going up stairs is fairly easy (I've still got a lot of muscle to build back up), and I can almost sit cross-legged. Slowly but surely, I am getting better.
The kids are loving school. Eme is in absolute heaven in her kindergarten class. She comes home with such wonderful stories: the first day of school she told me she wouldn't need to bring a lunch anymore, there were these special cards that they each had and she could show the lunch people her card and get a lunch. When I told her that her card didn't have any money on it, she told me that there wasn't money on their cards, just their names and some numbers. I just laughed and told her that she'd still be bringing her own lunch anyway. (I wonder what she thinks of our credit cards)
Davin loves 2nd grade, and I am so thrilled with both his teacher and the whole 2nd grade team. They switch teachers for math twice a week, and they do some other rotations as well, so Davin has been able to spend some quality time in one other classroom in particular, Mr Heaton's. Mr Heaton has some pets, including turtles, lizards, fish, and one or two others. As cool as his classroom is, I am so grateful Davin isn't in there regularly, I doubt he'd ever pay attention to anything but the animals!
Aidan is happy in 6th grade. He did a summer math class and band class, just to keep up on both subjects. And it has been so great for him. He's doing well in math, the strategies class made a huge difference for him. They just started their big Egypt unit, and he is so excited to work on his projects. Eric is looking forward to going with him to science camp this winter-I so remember science camp, it was a lot of fun! And he's still doing well with the flute.
And in celebration of our 13th anniversary, I made Eric help me paint our room. (I'll post the pics soon). It's a lovely silver-gray, perfect with our wrought iron bed and table, the white w/navy hotel bedding, and the yellow accent pillows. I'm loving the change so much, that I've got plans for the office, the kitchen/family room, and the kids' bedrooms-all will be done by next summer!!
