We've been in so many different wards over our (almost) 12 years of marriage. And I have to say, that from the moment we walked into our current ward, we knew that there was something special about it.
We've been in wards where there was almost no change whatsoever. In wards where every 6 months the entire ward changed. In wards where it was mostly newlyweds or mostly deads. But this ward has got an even mix, young couples just starting out, those with small families, those with larger families, those with older kids, and those with empty nests.
Mother's Day past had often been a mixed bag of gifts. In one ward we would get a small plant start (that usually died w/in a week). In another ward we would get one of those small inspirational booklets by Sis Hinckley or some other person (I've got 2 or 3 of them). One year, in another ward, we got sugar-free chocolate bars!
But as I said, this ward is different, they know how to treat mothers. In the Sossaman Ward, for Mother's Day, we get one of Sweet Cakes' amazing 5-layer brownie. The layers, oh the layers, are: brownie, cheese cake, chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, and fudgy-frosting an inch thick! They aren't small either, 3-inches square and 2 inches high! (I don't share w/ the kids, I'll give Eric a sliver, and the rest I enjoy over 2 or 3 days.) And having now celebrated 3 Mother's Days in this ward, I'm fairly certain that if we didn't get our brownies, we'd shut down the ward by going on strike.
And so I thank, whomever was the first to put this idea forward, it is the best ward Mother's Day gift, EVER, you shall forever hold a place in all of our hearts.
Oh, Sweet Cakes, and their brownies, were recently spotlighted on TLC's Best Food Ever, so now they are shipping their decadance out of state, plus they've got a good picture of what I've feebly attempted to describe.

I just forwarded this entire post to our ward's executive secretary with a note about next year. What does your ward do for Father's Day?
Claudia: they get paradise bakery cookies. Not too bad, but nothing compared to ours. hehehe.
I love that you have a entire post about the mothers day browine. YES it is one of my favs about mothers day. And I think if they do decied to do somthing eles for mothers day, I will make Kevin go get me one himself.
I remember the year when we got the sugar free candy bars - I think they had a warning on them that if you ate too much they could cause diarrhea - so funny! Those brownies sound awesome, but nothing can top Jeff's aunts ward in Mesa. The youth teach all the classes on Mother's day and the men serve them a big brunch during the second hour of church. How can we get that tradition started?!
Sounds heavenly!
