For me, it wouldn't be Christmas without at least one project on my plate. In the past I've done all sorts of ornaments: embroidered lace, embossed metal, hand painted nutcrackers for the kids, embroidered ones for the kids (3 or 4 years worth). Eric and I've designed and built the girls a kitchen and the boys desks. Eric has made a couple of clocks, and I've made an afghan and a quilt. And this year is no different.
I tend to make a lot of our kid's ornaments. And with the beauties of unfinished wood ornaments and a steady hand, as well as my embroidery machine, I've done a fairly good job at them. While looking on Pinterest a few months ago, I came across the coolest ornaments: Lego Death Stars, I knew they would be perfect for the boys. Unfortunately, when I started pricing them out on Legos' pick-a-brick, they were going to run over $10 a piece.
Then an idea struck in the middle of Target. I had just found some of those Lego Star Wars mini-kits on clearance for $2/each. And I thought, why not try? So, 2 tubes of super-glue later, the boys have some super cool (although not very "merry") ornaments, all for about $3/each. I've even picked up another 2 Star Wars mini-kits for next year's ornaments. Because, really, nothing says "Merry Christmas" like battling for galactic domination.
(I just bought the girls some cute Hello Kitty ones, they came in a 4 pack, so they're all set for next year too!)
