because if they weren't they'd need some serious therapy when they're older.
Truth be told, I've never really thought that much about my kids loosing their teeth. It's just one of those things that happens eventually to everyone. Unfortunately, teeth seem to be our Achilles heel, our one great weakness as parents. Case in point:
Aidan has only lost one of his I-teeth, he has a second one that's loose, and it has been for quite some time. The night before we had this conversation:
A: I think I've got a loose tooth.
Me: I know, it's been loose for a while.
A: No, not that one, the one behind it. It's a molar, I think.
Me: No, that's not possible, you don't loose molars. Sometimes it can feel like your teeth are wiggly as your mouth grows and they shift slightly.
(I'm sure some of you know where this is headed, and, no, it was not pretty.)
The next night the boys were brushing their teeth at bedtime when we heard a terrible scream, and then Davin came running to the top of the stairs and yelled: "MOM, DAD, come quick, something terrible just happened! Aidan just lost a tooth that wasn't supposed to come out!" Eric and I ran up the stairs to find Aidan sobbing in the bathroom.
Eric took one look at the situation, and then ran downstairs to check online about what teeth were and were not supposed to come out. While I stayed upstairs to calm Aidan down, put the tooth (which had no root) back in his mouth, and then bring him downstairs to see what Eric could find out.
Apparently, kids loose 20 teeth, the center 4 top and bottom, the 4 I-teeth, and then their first 2 molars on the top/bottom/right/left. Who knew? Not us, that's for sure.
We all had a good laugh about our evening of blunders. The tooth fell out because the new one was pushing up already, and we discovered that the boy was cutting his 12 year molars as well. I was just grateful that the tooth fairy had a dollar bill in her wallet.

It's a good thing our kids are resilient,
