(Oquirrh Mt Temple, as seen from in line)
Just before we left for Utah, I saw that we'd be there during the open house for the Oquirrh Mt Temple in South Jordan. One quick call to Eric and we decided to take the kids through, it was a wonderful opportunity that we couldn't pass up.
We got up Friday morning, and got ready to go, our tour time was for 1:10, and we had an hour and a half drive ahead of us. Eme talked nonstop the entire way there. Her subjects were varied, ranging from her understanding of Land Before Time to her misperceptions of primary lessons.
(yup, you guessed it, waiting in line)
The temple was beautiful, and packed. There were at least 200 people scheduled for each session, and the sessions were scheduled every 10 minutes. The temple was jammed with people, it was a solid line, start to finish. But even though there were so many people, there was such respect and reverence, that the noise level wasn't any louder than pre-sacrament meeting.
(the fountain in front, still waiting in line)
We took the opportunity to talk to our kids about what they were seeing, about some of the rooms. Since Aidan is 9 and in 3 years will be able to help with proxy baptisms, we talked with him about the baptismal font, and about baptism for the dead. Eme of course heard some of this and then informed us that when she was dead, that she'd like to be baptized there too.
(afterwards, no more waiting in line)
After a lunch/dinner at Applebee's at 4 pm, we headed home. Eme talked for the first hour, non stop, about her mis-understandings from primary. I got tired of trying to correct her, and she got mad everytime I did. My relief came when she asked if I'd like to hear her new favorite song, Jesus loves me, sometimes. I laughed so hard it took me three tries to tell Eric the name of her song. It was exactly what we needed to hear, when we needed it.
