School bells are ringing...Yipee!

Woo Hoo, the kids are back in school! And I am so excited! The first day of school went smoothly for everyone. The boys were all ready and excited to go. They've each got some kids from church in their classes, and Aidan has one or two kids from third grade in his class again this year. We're hoping for an easier year for Aidan, he's our shy kid, and has a difficult time coming out of his shell to make friends (one of my contributions). Last year was really hard for the first few months, a new kid in a new school, but he was finally able to get to know a few other kids, and recesses became a happier time.

They both had a good first day, Aidan was able to find some of his old friends, and is working on making some new ones. I has helped that he's grown quite a bit this past year, he's no longer the shortest kid in class and can now run faster, and that he's found some things that he's good at: climbing and frisbee. He's got more confidence, and we're happy about that.

Davin came home all excited about his first day of school, he couldn't stop talking about what they did. Until, of course, I asked if he was looking forward to going back the next day, to which he replied "No, I'm done. I just wish that I only had to go to school on Mondays." Sorry kid, you're in for a long, long haul for the rest of your life. He does well in school, he just doesn't like to go in the morning (thankfully it isn't anything like the drama of going to church), but is just fine once we're out the door on our way.

Eme has had a bit of a hard time with the boys in school. The tantrums the first week and a half of school nearly sent me over the edge. But it's gotten better. It may take us some time, but we'll find a nice schedule that works for us three girls.

And since our district has decided to implement their budget cuts by only allowing the kidergartners to go to art once every 24 days (pe is once every 12, as is computers, while library is once every 6), I volunteered to do the Art Masterpiece program with Davin's class. After hearing how interested the other K teachers were, and how excited Aidan's 4th grade teacher was when I asked if she'd like me to work with her class as well, I decided to make Art Masterpiece my pet project. I am in the process of getting the Art Masterpiece going at our school. I did it for two years at San Tan, and I loved it, it's a wonderful program that has very little cost, but lots of rewards. So, we'll see how that goes.

Cute back to school pictures! I also love Art Masterpiece. I'd much rather volunteer doing that than being stuck making copies for an hour. The kids always love it too!

Tell me more about Art Masterpiece! Our district doesn't do any art. I'd love to help in schools with something like that. Does it go along with curriculum, what do you do?
